Figure of a hound on an oval grassy mound decorated in enamel colours, Mark: underglaze blue crown over crossed swords and D with initials S&H, late nineteenth century. Illustrated:  Blackwood and  Head, ‘The King Street Factory 1849-1935’, pp 276 This is a rare example of the ‘Alcibiados Hound’ as exhibited in 1991 at the Royal Crown Derby Museum. The companion figure is a striking ‘ dismal hound’ on a high mound base,  beautifully decorated in enamel colours.    Mark: underglaze blue crown over crossed swords and D with initials S&H, the work of Sampson Hancock’s King Street Factory at Derby.   A great rarity  which may have been made to commission.
